We Love Mission Trips!
Each year, members of Central Congregational Church travel to West Virginia and to Downeast Maine to help make homes warm, safe and dry for residents in need. We tackle much-needed renovation projects, scrape and paint houses, build and repair porches and handicapped ramps, helping to repair homes and lives. Our goal is to make God’s love visible to those we serve. It is a life-changing experience for both those serving as well as those being served.
Sadly, the West Virginia Workcamp for 2020 has been cancelled due to Covid 19.
Each year, in June, CCC sends a group of youth and adults to the Cabell-Lincoln Workcamp in Huntington, WV for a week. We call this our “West Virginia Workcamp” mission trip and it’s done in partnership with All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Chelmsford and Mont Vernon Congregational Church in Mont Vernon, NH. At the workcamp, we meet up with other groups from all over the eastern U.S. and split into small work crews. Each crew goes to a home site and makes repairs that the homeowner cannot make themselves. The goal is to make each home “Warm, Safe and Dry.”
The trip is open to teens 14 years and older and adults. Youth younger than 14 can go if accompanied by a parent. Monthly planning meetings are held each year, usually starting in March. If you think you are interested, please attend the early meetings to get more details. We need to know who is going by May 1st, as we need to send a deposit to the workcamp. If you’d like to help with this mission trip, but can’t go to West Virginia yourself, there are ways to contribute. Workcampers will be selling workcamp shares after service each Sunday up until the week of the trip. Just give a donation in any amount and you’ll get a “share” in the workcamp and also be signed up to get 2 postcards from Workcampers. Other fundraisers will also be planned. All the money raised goes to defray the cost of the trip. If you have questions, please contact Bryan Norman at firstname.lastname@example.org or 978-250- 8469.

Sadly, the Down East Maine Mission Trip for 2020 has been cancelled due to Covid 19.
On our Down East Maine Mission Trip we go to Washington County and join with a ministry called, “Neighbors in Need.” The DEMM trip is for teens and adults. Youth entering 8th grade and up are eligible, 7th graders and younger should talk with parents and Peter White for mission options with DEMM. We join with the Harvard UCC Congregational Church for this trip and stay at a church camp outside of Machias, Maine. Kids and adults enjoy renewing friendships, making new friends, getting to know the great residents we serve and other DEMM traditions such as star-gazing, campfires, visiting the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and more! This trip is a 16 year tradition for our church and is always a terrific, meaningful time. Look for an informational meeting to be held in February or early March. For more information and/or to sign up, contact Peter White, 978-407-4913.
