Neighborhood Gathering

Event details

  • March 16, 2018
  • 7:00 pm
  • 7 Gallup Dr., Chelmsford MA

Several years ago our church began discussions on issues of inclusivity and the Open and Affirming Process. When Pastor John retired, the Mass Conference strongly suggested we postpone the process until a new pastor is in place. The Deacons of our church have decided it’s time to restart the Open and Affirming Process. An Open and Affirming Task Force is in its early stages. If you’d like to be involved, we’d love to have you. Speak to Lynn Horton or Pastor Rich.

We’re excited to re-start this process, which will include study, prayer, and conversation among individuals, small groups, and larger groups. Within the context of becoming a more broadly inclusive church, we’ll talk about becoming an “Open and Affirming” church. Open and Affirming, referred to by the initials “ONA”, is a UCC designation for churches that have publicly and specifically declared that those of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions are welcome in its ministry.

Our next Neighborhood Gathering is: Friday, March 16, 7 p.m. – 9 pm at the home of Karen Papenfuss, 7 Gallup Drive in Chelmsford.

We will be scheduling additional group sessions in the coming weeks and months until all those who are interested are able to participate. Last year we had a number of Neighborhood Gatherings in March. Over 80 people participated, sharing in great times of fellowship and discussion. We hope you’ll join us this March for these important conversations.

In grace and peace, Lynn Horton, Monique Billingsley, Marcia Cassidy, Doug Drake, Elizabeth Hartigan, Beth Jarok, Val King, Sue Mirisola, Judy Musgrove, Karen Papenfuss, Pastor Rich Knight
